Om Devi Skandamatayai Namah॥
The fifth day of Navratri is for Skandamata- mother of the war God Skanda (Kartikey). She rides a ferocious lion and carries Lord Skanda(infant) in her lap. It is believed that she was chosen as the commander in chief of war against the demon, thereby she is also recognized as “Goddess of Fire.” The iconography of this female God is depicted with four hands, lotus flower in her upper two hands, one hand in Abhaya Mudra, and one right hand, she carries Skanda. She is often pictured seated on a lotus flower and is referred to as Padamasani.
On this day we can pray and awaken the energy of Goddess Skandamata, wherein we can show ourselves riding waves of our life’s honoring our path. Holding onto the inner-strength and having courage no matter how dark the path gets. Speaking truth with no fear and ready to face the hurdles and blocks with confidence and strength. The lotus can be a beautiful way to express our desire to blossom like a beautiful lotus on our path to self-realization. The child on the lap can be seen as we go about our duties of family and maintain a happy and peaceful family life. We can still have time to awaken and nurture the divine feminine energy within us to help us expedite the process towards self- realization. The Abaya mudra can be seen as holding onto peace, releasing fear, and creating a sense of security. A person can feel the power and peace within him/ herself. No matter how tough or stressful the situation or life can get, by awakening this beautiful divine feminine energy within us. We can learn ways to know that these are important lessons learning and experiencing the same we can move on in our journey of life.
Wear a yellow color as it will keep you cheerful and energized. It also signifies the path of enlightenment, the color of happiness, and prosperity.
What to offer: Bananas is the favourite fruit of Goddess Skandmata.
Let us invoke this divine feminine trait within us and bring about a chance to our thinking and perceive life with the eyes of love and gratitude.
