Goddess Mahagauri
Om Devi Mahagauriyai Namah॥
Durga Ashtami or the eight-day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri. She is a four-armed deity who rides on a bull or a white elephant. She carries a Trishul and a damru in her hands.
Mahagauri is regarded as the most graceful form among the Navadurga forms. Her beauty glows like a pearl with purity. Being the Goddess of purity, cleanliness, endurance, and peace, her worshipper’s flaws and mistakes are burnt to ashes. Mahagauri has four arms. She keeps her right hand in the pose of alleviating suffering and trident in the lower right hand. Her upper left arm holds the damaru and the lower-left provides blessings. On this auspicious day, many invite 9 kumaris home and feed them.
The goddess is an epitome of beauty and grace. This is something each and every one of us be it man or woman have, ( I am talking about the beauty of the soul). It’s just that we choose to suppress it and refuse to acknowledge the inner beauty and grace that we carry. Suppressing that we try to imitate and copy someone else and are never comfortable with our own looks, complexion, and status in society. Through connecting to this beautiful energy we can reignite the grace and also accept our own beauty and identity. Walking the path with peace, cleanliness, and enduring the rough patches knowing we have the inner strength and wisdom to guide us through this. We can balance our energies of masculinity and femininity within us and when we see her riding the white Bull it can be beautifully signified. The white elephant at times can be shown as to how to be connected to the feminine energies and nurture the divine mother within us.
As we are almost coming to an end of Navratri allow yourself to connect to the goddesses and allow the divine feminine energies to work through you and let us make our planet a better place for the coming generations.
Colour To Wear: For Mahagauri pooja, wear purple color which epitomizes opulence, nobility, and power.
What to offer: Goddess Mahagauri is offered coconut by devotees.
( please note I am putting the colors as what I have read and understand and I personally don’t follow this pattern I strongly believe all that we need is a strong intent and pure heart to awaken the divine energies)
