Do We Need To Prove Ourselves All The Time
Something which brings our thoughts to a grinding halt. But this thought is often manifested by many of us. There can be many reasons for it, but an important question would be
Who am I trying to prove myself to?
Am I on a quest to prove things to myself or others?
In case it’s for others what do they mean to you?
Are they your:-
• Family
• Friends
• Acquaintance
• Colleagues
• Peers
What could the reasons be?
The reasons can be plenty, one of the core reason being the conditioning we received wherein to get acknowledged or appreciated we had to do something remarkable or exceptional. This would bring about instant attention from all. There would be limelight on us for some time. Over a period we get used to this and it becomes really difficult to move ahead.
This is where many even lean towards attention seeking as they feel that they need to do something to get the required acknowledgment or approval. At times we may wonder who to blame or should we just be a self-critic. The answer is no, one needs to know and understand that we don’t need anyone’s approval or recognition.
Getting into the drill of having to go through the roller coaster ride of getting the required approval or attention can put us into a zone of
• Anxiety
• Fear
• Frustration
• Uncertainties
• Stress
Now when we encounter such situations and have emotions flaring up wherein we have no control can lead us into a zone of feeling
• Lost
• A failure
• Lack of confidence
• Low self-esteem
• Feeling rejected
The only way to tackle these issues is the one simple question,
Who do I wish to please?
I have repeated the question but this is the pivotal point for many paths to open up or even doors of opportunities to open up. When we are on a path to try to please the world in the bargain we don’t please ourselves and we bring in unhappiness and suffering into our spaces.
At the same time when we put ourselves in priority and start working towards helping our desires, things change as we start working from a point of self-love and respect. In the process of trying to help or prove ourselves right, we tend to go the extra mile or the wrong way which can be of no value.
So some simple tips to focus on doing to help oneself to work on pleasing self and not others.
>Set your priorities right and also have a contingency plan.
>Journal your day’s experiences and work on being vocal with expressing yourself.
>Be in the present and don’t get caught into the past.
>Work on your limiting beliefs which would be making you lean towards the other side.
>Seek a support group or someone who can be a pillar of strength.
>Work with an optimistic approach and be open to criticism.
>Work on affirmations and don’t be harsh on yourself.
>It’s good to work on yourself daily and retrospect on how you are fairing.
>Trust your instincts and go with it.
>Work on your self-confidence.
It’s your journey of life so do things that are meaningful to you and not to others.
Trying to please the world will get you nowhere try to please yourself.
