Self- Love
Well, in every other blog I am always talking about self-love and the importance of self-love. In my growing, up years I hardly heard words like self-love or self-respect. Yet every one had their self-respect and self-love and moved about life doing what they love to do. Yes, they are circumstances and situations wherein this has been compromised or been traded for the need for attention and acknowledgment.
This can become a debatable topic especially for those who have had a balanced upbringing. Whereas those who have been suppressed or had a tough upbringing it’s never easy and a tough battle to fight.as they need to start right at the foundation of changing their belief systems and work on self-love and self-respect.
What is Self-Love?
Self-Love means having a high regard for your well-being and happiness. It also means taking care of your needs and not sacrificing them for the well-being of others. Self-love can mean something different for each person depending on their perceptions and values of life. They may choose to take care of themself by prioritizing their needs. This has been conceptualized as a basic human necessity and helps one battle the various hurdles that can arise due to situations and circumstances.
Many people may cringe at the idea of self-love, whereas studies have shown the importance of self-love. Self-love is much needed to have an emotionally well balanced and mentally healthy mind and wellness of mind body and soul. Through self-love, we can bring this into perfect balance and alignment keeping ourselves grounded as we move ahead with our choices of life.
Trauma, abuse, and bullying can shatter our self-love and bring it down to the ground. In such cases, the first thing to do is work in the ideology of self-love too as one works on the issues of the trauma and tries to release them. When trying to be selfless at times and go about doing things for others could also bring your self-love ratio down. Similarly being overly selfish and not at all thinking of anything or anyone can also clearly show an imbalance in the equation of self-love.
Trying to hide our pain or hurt one may slip into doing selfless acts and through the masks of smiles and happiness hide the true feelings. It is always good to work on the issues and also release them and keep self-love at a good balance and keep it as a focal point for everything in your life.
Some common reasons for lack of Self-love:
- Unsupportive parents or a lot of differences been shown towards siblings.
- Peer criticism and pressure for need of acceptance and acknowledgment.
- Maybe a role model who refuses to know or acknowledge the fact of your presence.
- Bad influences of friends and colleagues.
- Trauma or Abuse.
- Repeated failures or poor performance academically draws to a lot of criticism.
- Stress full life maybe a divorce or loss in business or work.
- Depression.
- Anxiety-related issues.
Tips on how to motivate oneself and to build on self-love
- Stop comparing yourself with others and accept yourself for who you are.
- Don’t worry about others’ opinions.
- Allow yourself to let go of toxic people who don’t hold onto them.
- Address your fears.
- Trust yourself with whatever you wish to do.
- Prioritize yourself at times it is needed.
- Allow yourself to make mistakes.
- Don’t become a self-critic.
- Know failures are stepping stones to success.
- Remember to love yourself no matter what others have to say.
- Work in trust and confidence issues with self.
Many times we mix self-love with ego and get stuck. Being unsure if it is our ego nudging us or is it our self-love. Yes, there is a fine line and one can get confused or lost not knowing what is it. Maybe while we think it is self-love and we work towards it and someone says ”hey you are being selfish or it’s not only all about yourself”.
Then it’s time for you to re-establish your ground rules and check where are you. Being oblivious have you slipped towards being selfish or self-centered. Evaluate your acts and thoughts and take a stand on this. Of course, life is not only about you. So then don’t get caught up in the point of trying to justify or explain.
Self-love is much needed for one to have and to hold onto. This is something much needed even to move forward for anything else in life. Be it confidence or even things like deep healing work. A healer would first check on how deep the wound is and where is your self-love. This is the way necessary to make it a strong foundation before moving ahead with anything else.
Working on self and setting up a time for nurturing and caring is much needed to bring the self-love ratio to an equal and good balance.
Self-love is more like vitamin C which is much for stability and immunity to face life as it comes.
