DECISION MAKING
This is one skill I always believe one should have and also work on it. I have been writing for about a year now. But no matter what I have been unable to write about this topic. Don’t ask me why? Or what was my resistance?
I have no idea, often I would tell myself that I will write about this tomorrow and tomorrow never came for this one topic. At times I would wonder if it is my own resistance and mindset with the limiting beliefs I had about my own abilities to make the right decisions or maybe I was truly procrastinating.
The funny thing is I was actually procrastinating to write about decision making. Of course, now you may wonder wow you also procrastinate! Why not I am human too with emotions and thoughts attached to the world just as you are.
So as I start to write about decision making,
What is decision making?
Decision making is the process of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering information, and assessing alternative resolutions. Using a step-by-step decision-making process can help you make more deliberate, thoughtful decisions by organizing relevant information and defining alternatives.
So in short decision-making is having an ability to take the right decision based on your perceptions and inner strength, of course, one would need confidence and the energy boost to even take the step forward.
Now that we understand the importance of decision making. Let us see and understand how does it affect us or why do we need to be more clear about taking the right decisions.
Decision making is an important vortex of our life. The right decision takes down the right path and obviously the wrong ones will take you down the wrong path spiralling down.
It’s painful and difficult to actually make a decision especially if you are one of those who loves to procrastinate for sometime before taking the rightful decision. The decisions should be taken at the right moment and also with all facts taken into account it can actually be very painful to undo the mess.
Some simple steps for decision making:-
- Set aside some quiet time and space for yourself.
- Declutter and clarify your thoughts to know exactly what you are thinking.
- Set goals and be clear about them and how you wish to proceed to achieve them.
- Set a time table along with a contingency plan it’s good to be prepared for setbacks.
- Gather all the information you can as you would need it for the rightful decision.
- Connect to your instincts and know if you are being righteous.
- Avoid being judgmental or biased over things.
- Layout all the facts and allow yourself to see what works out for you.
- Strive to be objective with your decision making.
- Weight the pros and cons as this is equally important.
- Own up to mistakes and clarify these to yourself.
- Don’t be hasty and rush in without actually understanding the facts.
- Being very indecisive can be difficult for you, the fears and uncertainties should be released.
- Be rational and logical while taking the decision but don’t get rigid or stubborn with your thoughts.
- It is good to be independent and work on helping yourself to work with confidence.
Some common hurdles or blocks we face while we set for decision making are:-
- Our inabilities to address priorities
- The deep-seated fear
- Anxiety and Uncertainties
- Confidence issues
- Fear of failures
- Commitment issues
- Resistance towards saying ng yes to the right path
- Panic when things may slow down or go off hand
- Stress taking the right decision
- Procrastination
This is an important life skill to have, as it helps us move forward without taking the time or stressing out. Be it for the path of self-realization or work-related. When we say ’let me think about’. We are buying time to procrastinate especially cause of the nudges we are getting to go for it.
Our ego and uncertainties may set in which makes it very slow and difficult for us. By working on this important skill I personally use it daily. Be it for my domestic front, work front, or towards interpersonal relationships. This a beautiful tool.
Using it to weigh and understand and go about is really important. At this these ’ What if’? Questions slow us down and then naturally the stagnation sets in. When stagnation sets in. It is then natural for illness to follow suit as energy has to be in a flow. Through our fears, stress, and uncertainties we manifest illness onto our doorstep.
Do keep a lookout for a trail of decision making blogs.
Taking the right decision at the right time os important for one as they journey on in life.
Decisions are nothing but taking the right choices towards our true destiny.
