How Can I Stay Motivated With My New Year Resolutions?
New Year resolution is something every one of us takes or has. We set new resolutions and get all excited towards the starting of the new year. Nonetheless, these resolutions dissolve or go oblivious by a month or so.
Why is that ?
There is lack of motivation and at times there is no clarity as to why one is setting resolutions. Some have the herd mentality seeing fellow peers setting resolutions each one would start setting these and at times not even being clear if they wish or want these or even work towards achieving them.
Is it good to have New Year resolution?
It is good to have a New Years resolution it helps to understand and evaluate yourself. It is a good start to prioritize yourself and put things in order as per what needs importance. Making these resolutions and sticking by it will bring great change to you. Than for those who are unsure and don’t make any resolutions.
Planning before the year starts and how to move ahead and how to make things go as per our resolutions is much needed. When we set new year resolutions it helps us also understand what are the areas that need work done on and how can it be done.
Some common New Year Resolutions are:-
- Starts exercising and shed some weight
- Take care of health
- Keep a budget plan for the year
- Save money and spend less
- Quit smoking
- Try to reduce drinking alcohol or maybe caffeine
- Look for new opportunities
- Change your job
- Read some books
- Make a bucket list and fb things you wish to do for the year
- Start a diet plan
- Plan on starting mediation
- Planning on seeking therapy for some weakness
- Learning something new
- Try to pick a new hobby
The list can go on, the point is how do we stick to our new year resolutions and make them work?
- You need to have smaller goals that are achievable, so set your big goals and break them down to smaller ones and work on them.
- Prioritize your resolutions and take one thing at time. Remember Rome was not built in a day. Instead of getting overwhelmed with our new year resolutions take it easy.
- Avoid getting into being harsh or going down the lane of self-criticism. This would only demotivate you and put you in a downward spiral.
- Keep small brownie points or rewards as motivational pointers. That can help you out through achieving your goals.
- While setting your resolutions, write them down keeping in mind what exactly you wish for and learning from past experiences keep them simple.
- Keep space for failures and now it’s okay to have set-backs and work from the point of self-love and nurturing to help you be on the path of resolutions.
- Make a vision board and put your resolutions out there and be sure it’s visible to you day in and out.
- Tick off the resolutions completed and treat yourself to small well-deserved treats and pampering.
- Be realistic and work out your outline plan accordingly.
- Keeping a pros and cons list is much needed and will help you to be able to work things out.
- Track your progress and be patient with yourself
- Set your resolutions with what you wish to have or do not what others want or wish for.
- Keep a gratitude journal and work on practising daily of giving gratitude for everything we have.
- It’s good to ask someone to be your support or join a support group to help you.
- Be mindful with whatever you wish to do and accept things gracefully.
Setting new year’s resolutions is the easiest and also the simplest thing, so take time now to have gratitude for this year no matter how tough and bitter the journey has been for some of you. The lessons were that you have experienced is exceptionally strong and taught many of us to value the small things of life which we had forgotten.
